I also have an iPhone4s and I love my phone as well. I remember when I had the iPhone3g I said I would never get another iPhone because I did not like the fact that you HAD to update your phone every so often just in orde for it to work properly. Obviouly that didn’t last long. I went to Droid after I said I was done, but I’m back! The capabilities of the iPhone are pretty amazing. I love my phone just as much as you!

I love my iphone as well! Like you said, it has everything at your fingertips. You can’t beat that. Most people get sad if their iPhone breaks, not only is it expensive to get fixed, but your connection to the world whether that be text, social media, or news is gone!

Evolution of Cell Phones

Image

Cell phone technology has evolved in many ways over the past years.  At one point in our lives, cell phones were only known for being able to make calls.  Now they have the capabilities to text, play music, check weather, play games, and plenty more.

Cell phone turning point

Through the invention of smart phones, cell phones now have app centers.  App centers allow you to download a variety of programs such as social media, photography, video and much more.  I remember being so amazed at having my own cell phone and being able to play the Snake game when I was younger that when smartphones came out I didn’t think it could get any better.  I had to have a smartphone.

I would say I am fairly up-to-date with cell phone technology.  I currently have an iPhone 4s which is considered a smartphone, although there are times I question just how smart it is.   The iPhone4s allows me to do a number of additional things besides text like take and alter high quality pictures and videos, pay bills, edit documents and navigate road trips.  My phone even talks to me.

The capabilities my phone has are far beyond what I use my phone for.  I can honestly say I use my phone for making calls, texting, and checking social media accounts.   Any time I find myself not busy, I find myself checking my phone looking at social networks.   I find out a lot of information through social media.     Although I check my social media accounts first at times, I do also check news, weather and other things religiously.  It is not minute-by-minute, but you can rest a sure if I am not busy I am checking my phone.

Pros/Cons

The evolution of cell phone technology has left cell phones glued to our hands.  I think there are several pros and cons to having these things at our fingertips.  A pro is being able to access information 24/7.  You do not have to wait to hear it on the news or on the radio; you can access it within a few pushes to your cell phone.   Another pro is being able communicate with a group of people at the same time; therefore, you can always be on the same page.  Also, you can’t forget some of the things us college students love like being able to search for coupons, and learn about the best deals around you.

Yes, having these things at our fingertips can definitely benefit us, but it could also hurt us.   A con to having social media at our fingertips is the ability to be easily distracted.  I have had times where I should be doing work, but I ended up getting caught up in my social media accounts.  Unfortunately, there are many people that end up living another life through social media.  They forget who is following them and end up posting false information that gets them caught up.  Anther con is the availability hackers have because passwords, financial institution connections, and basically our whole life are connected to our phone where it is able to send and receive private information.

Smartphones have made our lives easier in ways, but also made us be more cautious of the capabilities.
