Fondest Childhood Memory

What is your fondest childhood memory? Why do you remember this as being one of your best memories?

My fondest childhood memory would have to be when I was around the age of 7 or 8.  It was a sunny afternoon and I was outside playing with my bestfriend.  There was a boy in the neighborhood who had a trampoline and his house was the central location for all the kids in the neighborhood to play because he had the trampoline. So this particular day my bestfriend and I decided to go jump on the trampoline with the other kids.  Now of course you know that only so many people can fit on a trampoline at once;  so we had to take turns, and you  know kids are impatient.

It was finally our chance to get on the trampoline, so we get on and just had the times of our lives laughing, joking, and flirting with the boys.  Well I don’t know what went wrong while I was jumping, but all I remember was falling and ripping my pants.  These weren’t just any pants, these were the pants to my favorite Minnie Mouse outfit.  I was extremely sad and embarrassed.  I was more sad than embarrassed because it was my favorite outfit.  I’m sure you all can relate because as children we all had a favorite outfit.  I started balling my eyes out and my best friend tried calming me down letting me know it would be ok.  She walked with me home so I could change and go back out to play.

This is one of my fondest memories because this memory occured with my best friend and in my favorite outfit.  Those two reasons along will always stick out vividly in my mind and remind me of my fondest childhood memory.

What could you do with one million dollars?

What would you do if you had one million dollars? Would you keep it to yourself? Would you share it with family & friends? Would you give any to charity? Would you invest it?

If I had one million dollars I would  do a few things , but for the most part I would save.  “A simple fact that is hard to learn is that the time to save money is when you have some. ” – Joe Moore

The first thing I would do is give money to my mom.  It’s hard to say how much exactly I would give her becaue my mom has always made a way for me, so it would be hard to cap off a number.  I would mainly make sure she is set with bills and personal wants.

I would also try investing in stock.  The main purpose in investing in stock is capital gains.  I would check out the marketplace and see what stocks are best to invest.  For example, Nike and Apple would be two companies worth investing in now.

I have always been a saver.  No matter how much money I may have, I am always hesistant to spend it for some odd reason.  I  prefer to save my money, I guess mainly because I know if I am ever in a time of need I will always have money set aside and not have to depend on anyone else if I don’t have to.

I did say that I would save, but I wouldn’t put money up to save until I bought myself a few things for myself and maybe even take myself on a vacation.

There is a plethora of things  a person could do with one million dollars if they think and choose wisely.

Music makes the world go round

Who are your top three suggestions for performers for the spring concert at Georgia Southern? Why did you pick these three?  What determines whether or not you attend the spring concert?

One of the most anticipated events of the spring semester is The Spring Concert.  Every year, Georgia Southern  has a concert where they select an artist to bring to Paulson Stadium and give the students great music. Students are given the opportunity to make suggestions for their favorite band to come.  Georgia Southern is known as a “party school” so why not bring the best of the best to the school so we can all party. I am pretty sure my favorite artists and bands would not make the list, but here are a few artists that should be considered:

  • Nicki Minaj- If you are looking for entertainment  I think she would be a great sight to see because she is a character.  If you have seen her or know anything about her, you would understand. Nicki’s genre of music would fall under Hip Hop and R&B, but is definitely not limited to such.  Her alter ego attracts a diverse audience. Nicki keeps her “Barbies” as she calls her fans beyond entertained.
  • Taylor Swift- Since starting her career in 2006, Taylor Swift has captured the hearts of many.  The “girl next door” has written songs that allow you to relate to every day issues. Taylor has made a name for herself through television and music.  Her music attracts audiences of all crowds as well.
  • Jessie J- Jessie J taps in to genres of all areas: Pop, R&B, and Soul.  The UK hit sensation is underrated, and definitely on the come up.  Her voice puts a whole different twist to her music as well as the notes she can hit.  Having her come to a college town will give her a lot more recognition.  As like the others, she as well attracts masses.

I wouldn’t mind seeing one of these artists  in the spring concert.  Everyone has their own taste in music, but I think these artist have achieved making music that they enjoy but as well as others will enjoy that will be refreshing.  Georgia Southern is all about diversity, so why not add one of them to the mix. It would be nice to see a change in the genre of music that is chosen.

The artist chosen will make a difference if I attend the spring concert or not.  If they chose an artist that I am not interested in or a genre of music I am not interested in then I will not be in attendance.

Target is a “Hot commodity”

Since living in Statesboro I have heard many rumors regarding restaurants and stores claiming to come to the ‘Boro. While some of these do become a reality, others remain rumors. For this week’s topic, make an argument for either Target, Publix, or Kroger to come to Statesboro. How could these businesses benefit, how could the community benefit, etc. In the tags section (when writing your response), enter a tag for the name of the business you are targeting. It is possible that someone from their team will see your comments and you could have influence on bringing a new business to the ‘Boro.

Give Statesboro a chance.  In the past few years, Statesboro has added many new restaurants and stores. With Statesboro being a small college town, there are stores built to try to suite everyone’s needs; however, college students still feel there are a  few other businesses that could be added to bring in revenue to the county.  A store that is definitely on the “hot commodity” list is Target.  Target’s mission is to make Target the preferred shopping destination for our guests by delivering outstanding value, continuous innovation and an exceptional guest experience by consistently fulfilling our Expect More. Pay Less.brand promise.  I think Statesboro would be a perfect place for Target to accomplish their mission for several reasons:

1. Location:

  • Statesboro is the home to Georgia Southern University (GSU) with a growing population of 20,000 college students and 2,000 faculty and staff. It is also home to two other institutions.  Bulloch County brings in crowds from surrounding areas including Statesboro, Portal, and Brooklet. Statesboro is very accessible to  highways.

2. Employment:

  • With a small town full of college kids, there is always a college student looking for a job.  It can offer the chance to work in a diversified company as well as plenty of great internship opportunities.

3. Tax Incentives:

  • Retraining Tax credit is available to all Georgia businesses that file a Georgia income tax return.  This tax credit can be used to offset up to 50 percent of a company’s state corporate income tax liability.
  • Quality Jobs Tax credit is available to companies that create at least 50 jobs and pay wages at least 110 percent of the county average, they are eligible to receive a credit of $2,500- $5,000 per job, per year, for up to five years.
  • They also give 5% back to the community.

Shopping at Target is a one-stop shop.  You can purchase quality beauty, clothing, and groceries, but not limited to house decorations and outside equipment.  The set up of Target makes it easy to find the great deals while saving money, time, and fustration of driving all around just to shop.  Target is suitable for everyone.

Target sounds like “THE BUSINESS” Statesboro has been waiting for.
